About this deal

Lucy began to paint pictures. She’d mix colors on her paper plate until she got just the right one to add to her artwork! This color mixing activity was an absolute hit. Both Theo and Lucy have already mentioned more than once they want to do it again! Welove Hervé Tullet’s ‘ Press Here‘ and ‘Mix It Up’ is a lot of funtoo. It’s a greatbook to read but also provides an introduction to the three primary colours, the secondary colours that result from mixing them and shows how you can make colours lighter or darker.

Tom: Blue and yellow. Blue and yellow. I think it makes orange. Yep, orange. Does it actually make orange? This is an interestingway to mix the three primary colours. First we filled a shallow bowl with milk then dropped three drops of liquid red food colouring slightly away fromthe centre of the bowl. Then we added three drops of blue and three drops of yellow so that the colours formed a triangle. We squirted a small amount of washing up liquid in the centre of the triangleand watched what happened. (You can read aboutwhy the colours mix when you add the washing up liquid here). It was fascinating watching the colours move butit took a while for them to really mix together. The New York Times bestselling book, a brilliant companion to the mega-selling classic Press Here , is now gently compressed into a toddler-friendly board book. Mom, can I go out and play?” Sally yelled out to her mother. “Dress warm,” her mother replied. “Be sure to stay close and come in before dark.” In under a minute, Sally was outside playing with her friends and having a lot of fun. Oh! She wasn’t bored anymore either.

I think I’ll make the Southern Belle hot cocoa, topped with vanilla ice cream, and use a candy cane stirrer.” She said to herself. Just as she finished cooking, the door opened and a red-cheeked Sally came in and took off her gloves, coat, hat, scarf, and boots. “What’s that wonderful smell?” Sally said with a smile. “I hope it’s what I think it is.” All three sat and sipped the hot cocoa while Sally told them about her adventures outside.Sally giggled and said, “And I thought I was bored.” Sally was obviously bored. She moped around the apartment for a while, tried to find something to do, but there just wasn’t anything that interested her. She walked slowly to the window, pressed her nose against the cold glass, and watched the big snowflakes fall from the sky. She looked down and saw that they were already starting to cover the street and sidewalk. “Oh what a terrible day. I am so bored,” she said with a sigh. This book is a part of a series Herve Tullet created with his interactive color dots. He originally wrote “Press Here”, which teaches children their colors in an interactive story.

Possible answer:

Tom: I know what it is but I'm not telling *then whispers "orange" to Molly when he thinks I'm not looking*

Hervé Tullet, creator of the incredible ‘Press Here’, has returned with another equally fun, uniquely interactive, straight-up UNMISSABLE book. Prepare for some colour-smushing adventures that require neither the rolling up of sleeves, nor the panic over the safety of soft furnishings.

Did we miss something on diversity?

As the kids mixed colors, they’d save favorites they created on their free printable paint palette by painting in the circles. Herve Tullet must be a very vibrant, creative, and fun person to be around. I think he is like the picasso for kids and I mean that in the best ways!! This is our third Herve book we've added to our collection (Press Here and The Scribble Book.) We really enjoy the interactive style he uses in his books, to encourage kids to participate in the story as it goes along. I can’t even listen to music. I am bored … bored …… bored! I said aloud. ‘Sally,’ my Mom called out. ‘If you are so bored why don’t you draw a picture or color?’ \"I can’t,\" I said. \"I am out of paper.” I am bored! I don’t have any new books to read. I am bored! My Mom is listening to the news on the radio and they are talking about the low temperatures and the surprise winter storm that is moving in. One of our favourite art activities is great forshowing what happens when you mix the primary colours. We covered a small canvas with strips of red, yellow and blue crepe paper (making sure that there were some overlaps). Then we squirted the paper with water and waited. The second picture shows how the paperlooked after half an hour, the third picture shows the paper after leaving it overnight. We removed the paper to see how the colourshad mixed (my daughter thinks that it looks like sunset over the sea).

After cleaning up, we sat down and named the colors we had created. I just love the names they came up with- “Happy Day”, “Stormy Night”, and “Dolphin” were a few of my favorites! Tom: So which ones make orange? *we look through the book again for orange* So it was red and yellow?AN EDUCATIONAL GIFT: The gorgeous graphic visuals make this book an irresistible choice for gift-giving, while the educational concept is an appealing bonus. Hot Cocoa – Directions In a medium size pot mix together the cocoa powder, sugar, and salt. Stir in water. Cook over medium heat and stir it constantly until it starts to boil. Continue stirring mixture for another 1 to 1 1/2 minutes. Add milk and stir constantly until hot but do not boil. Remove from heat, add the vanilla, and whisk until foamy. Pour into your favorite mugs, serve, and enjoy.
